Raising awareness for BeatSCAD
Marie Bailey
My Story
I'm running The Big Half on the 7/9/25 for BeatSCAD.
I was so happy that I was selected to run on behalf of BeatSCAD and whilst this isn't my first half race hopefully it will be the one which makes a big difference to so many people.
Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is an uncommon condition that cannot be predicted or prevented - yet!
A bruise or tear develops in a coronary artery resulting in a blockage that prevents normal blood flow and can cause heart attack, heart failure or cardiac arrest and can be fatal.
Whilst assumptions can be made it is not known what causes SCAD. It tends to affect fit and healthy men and women in their 40s - 50s who have none of the traditional risk factors associated with heart disease.
I am a SCAD survivor and know how scary it is to not understand what and why this happened. Fortunately my consultant put me in touch with BeatSCAD who helped me on my journey.
I'd like to raise as much money as I can to increase awareness across hospitals and doctors surgery's as well as fund new centres across the UK.
Training is the biggest input to any race so if you think I'm working hard enough, please donate something 😊
About us
The Big Half follows a stunning 13.1 mile closed-road course, starting by London's iconic Tower Bridge and finishing at Cutty Sark in Greenwich.
It's a vibrant and fun community running festival that brings Londoners of all backgrounds and abilities together in a celebration of the city's diversity - while raising much-needed funds for charity in the process!
Here's where you can shout about your Big Half challenge to friends and family and get those donations roling in.
